AMCARE

Established in 2001 by the Alberton Methodist Church, AMCARE is a community outreach programme that provides primary homecare for the elderly, aftercare for primary and high school learners, support and training for victims and the unemployed. In addition AMCARE operate a VCT and Wellness Clinic for needs residents in the area.

AMCARE’s 120 volunteers provide balanced food parcels for approximately 3000 people each week food parcels and their 27 full-time caregivers support to those in need. In addition to feeding the hungry, the organisation cares for more than 350 HIV and Aids patients and a further 350 orphans and child-headed families.

Metrofile’s support

Looking after that many people needs good systems and record keeping, particularly given the nature of many of the cases that AMCARE is involved in. To help them stay on the right side of the law and to assist those in their care with access to the right services, Metrofile donated a full records management and filing system to the organisation. Ongoing records management and filing support is also being provided by Metrofile with the support of Indawo, who have very kindly provided free training for staff and a significant sum of filing stationery.

AMCARE’s services

The VCT and Wellness Clinic is fully accredited and is run by a registered sister and fulltime counsellor.

The Alberton community is fortunate in that AMCARE supplies around 400 litres of soup and 800 loaves of bread to 5 clinics and 240 children at 2 schools.

AMCARE supports the upliftment of the Alberton community by running a training centre accommodating up to 60 people with 11 vehicles, as well as 3 large vegetable gardens for fresh fruit and vegetables for the Alberton community.

A Victim Empowerment Shelter also forms part of AMCARE's facilities, housing up to 10 abused women and children.

IKHAYALA LE THEMA is another AMCARE facility, focusing on social work and early childhood development services. This facility is based in Braamfontein and accommodates up to 142 abused women and their dependant children.

The latest exciting development, is that AMCARE has partnered with Right to Care and The Gauteng Department of Health to establish an Anti-Retroviral Clinic on its premises. The demand for the clinic grew considerably as at present the number of HIV patients has reached approximately 800 per month and 200 ARV patients per month.
