The Highway Hospice Association is a non-profit organisation striving to ensure that the time left to people with terminal illness is meaningful and dignified. The hospice offers palliative care for people with an advanced, incurable disease, support for families and caregivers and education and training in palliative care.
The hospice is situated in Sherwood in Durban, and has 4 charity shops which have made a difference to the community as a result of donations from the community and business sector.
The Durban branch of Metrofile has played a part in the operation of the hospice by supporting 1371 beneficiaries a month, with a total contribution of R7035.
The hospice receives all profits made by the shops, in order to ensure a high standard of quality care to the terminally ill and support to their families in the community we serve.
The shops are situated in Durban, Hillcrest, Pinetown and Sherwood. Each shop comprises a dedicated manager and team of volunteers who help in serving behind the counter, keeping rails and shelves tidy.
Fundraising and donations are heavily relied on by the hospice, to ensure its survival as a non-profit organisation. Various fundraising ventures are embarked on by the hospice.
